JAMMU, Mar 29: The Department of English, in collaboration with Departments of Hindi and Dogri, organized a poetry recitation competition at Government Degree College Marh. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the college Principal, Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, along with other faculty members.
Prof. Anita Sharma, Head of the English Department, delivered the welcome address, followed by an insightful talk from the Principal, who emphasized the importance of building confidence, connecting students with society and effective life management. Dr. Ruchika Bavouria briefed the participants about the competition rules.
A total of 15 students from all semesters participated in the competition, expressing their views on various world issues such as drug addiction, terrorism and more, showcasing their critical thinking and creativity. The competition was judged by Prof. Ashu Jolly, Prof. Malti Rajput and Prof. Anjana Chib.
Damini Sharma (Semester IV) was awarded the first prize, Rohit Singh (Semester IV) secured second prize and the third prize was jointly awarded to Diksha Devi (Semester VI) and Sonia Choudhary (Semester VI). Sweety Kaith (Sem IV) and Shiv Kumar (Semester II) received consolation prizes. Appreciation certificates were also presented to all participants.
The event was anchored by Simran Devi (Semester IV), with assistance from Atinder Kumar (Semester IV) and Gourav Kumar (Semester IV). Dr. Gurleen Kour prepared a detailed report of the program. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shiksha Rani.
