JAMMU, Feb 23: The 32nd Senior Men and 18th Women J&K UT Wrestling Championship concluded with great enthusiasm at the Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu, after a day-long competition. Wrestlers from various districts participated in fierce battles for top honors.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, who praised the Wrestling Association of J&K for promoting the sport and providing a platform for young wrestlers. He assured the players of all possible support and cooperation to help them excel in their careers. Former international wrestler and SSP, Dushyant Sharma, was also invited as the guest of honour. He shared his personal wrestling experiences and encouraged participants.
The closing ceremony was attended by Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to the Chief Minister, J&K, who lauded the organizers for channelizing the energy of youth toward wrestling. He assured that support would be provided to J&K’s wrestlers to help them realize their dreams. He also spoke about the upcoming National Games in J&K.
Among the winners, Natter Singh of Reasi defeated Rohit Singh of JKP in the 61kg category, while Gulshan Chib of JKP won against Amar Jit of Jammu in the 79kg category. In the women’s category, Mary from Jammu defeated Rekha from Udhampur in the 50kg and Samreen from Udhampur defeated Nitisha from Jammu in the 53kg.
