9th District Handball C’ship begins at Poonch

POONCH, Jan 17: The 9th District Handball Championship kicked off at the Sports Stadium, here today. Organized by the Poonch District Handball Association under the banner of the J&K Handball Association and in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, the two-day championship features senior men’s teams from across the district. A total of six teams are competing in this exciting tournament, which is being held on a league-cum-knockout basis.
The opening ceremony was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including Mushtaq Ahmed, Incharge Sports Stadium Poonch, who declared the championship open. Other key attendees included Mohd. Shakeel (AEE), Pawan Kumar (PEL), Hockey Coach Ram Parkash, Mohd. Ilyas, Narinder Singh, Rajinder Singh, Ghulam Abass, DK Raina, Matinderpal Singh, Zakir Hussain, Richa Bali and Imtiaz Ahmed.
Sorab Sharma, Organizing Secretary of the championship, welcomed the guests, players, and officials on behalf of the Poonch District Handball Association.
In the opening matches, Poonch Handball Club defeated Surankote Handball Club with a 33-21 scoreline, while Ajote Handball Club triumphed over Power House Handball Club. The matches were officiated by Imtiaz Ahmed Lone, Ghulam Abass, and DK Raina.
