4th Eco-Cycle Yatra finally reaches Leh

LEH, Sept 11: 4th Eco-Cycle Yatra after covering nearly 3000 Km reached their final destination here today.
Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) accorded a rousing reception to the Yatra, which was led by Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche, the head of Drukpa lineage, in a grand function at NDS Sports Ground.
As many as 400 nuns led by Gyalwang Drukpa set on Eco-Cycle journey from Nepal on July 3 to spread the message of environment issue and gender equality. During the two month journey, cyclists crossed through number of states and cities which includes Uttarakhand, Bihar, Ranchi, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu and HP to create awareness among masses for the fragile environment protection, green environment, gender equality and message of peace, love and compassion.
Emphasizing the need of gender equality, Gyalwang Drukpa stressed the need for bringing change in the mental attitude of people treating women equally as preached by Buddha. He also advocated the need of bringing change in old practice where women are barred in entering in some Buddhist temples and at the same time he urged the women to be daring in all activities confidently and energetically.
LBA president, Tsewang Thinles, in his speech, assured to keep 30% women reservation in LBA executive members besides two nuns in central working committee members to empowerment women. Hailing the contribution of Drukpa Rinpochey towards women empowerment and environmental initiatives, LBA president urged the masses to practically walk on the path and teaching of Drukpa Rinpochey.
Ladakh MP, Thupstan Chhewang in his speech, emphasized the need to promote environment friendly transportation system. “I will be happy to support a female candidate in next MP election” said the Ladakh MP.
Appreciating such endeavours, CEC, Dr Sonam Dawa, assured to keep 30% reservation in Hill Council for women empowerment besides he also assured to keep fund provision so that Hill Council can approach different department to use cycle once in a week to set example.
Congress Legislative Party leader, MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora, said that world is facing a challenge of environment issue and such awareness campaign will contribute to save the environment. LBA Vice President PT Kunzang in his welcome speech also hailed the efforts of His Holiness to women empowerment and environment protection steps.
Later, LBA felicitated all cyclists with Khataks and mementoes. LBA with the support of Khanchen Tsewang Rigzin presented a Gold Cycle portrait gift to Gyalwang Drukpa.
Earlier, District Police Leh led by SSP Tsering Gyalpo hosted a lunch in honour of Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpochey and cyclist nuns at District Police Line, Choglamsar, Leh.
