JAMMU, Mar 6: The second day of the ongoing 47th Annual Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet (Men & Women) 2024-25, organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu, at the University Synthetic Track, saw exceptional energy and enthusiasm from both athletes and spectators.
The championship featured various track and field events, including the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, 10,000m, 1500m, long jump, shot put, discus throw and javelin throw. Each event presented unique challenges requiring skill, precision, strength, and technique from the athletes.
In the men’s long jump event, Amish of GDC Udhampur claimed the gold medal with a distance of 5.90 meters. He was followed by Keshiv Singh from PG Deptt JU, who secured the silver with a jump of 5.77 meters, while Rushant Skalia from GDC Kathua took the bronze with a 5.63-meter jump. In the women’s long jump, Varsha from GDC Billawar won the gold with a jump of 4.19 meters, just ahead of Prena Tiwari from GDC R.S Pura, who earned the silver at 4.18 meters. Sonika Sharma from PG Deptt JU clinched the bronze with a jump of 3.98 meters.
In the men’s triple jump, Uttkarsh Bamwal from GDC Udhampur emerged victorious with a leap of 11.49 meters, while Zahid Rehman from PG Deptt JU won silver with a jump of 11.20 meters. The bronze went to Keshav Chib of PG Deptt JU, who jumped 11.08 meters. In the women’s triple jump, Taniya Devi from GDC Billawar bagged the gold with a distance of 8.40 meters, followed by Gyan Kour of PG Deptt JU with a silver at 8.06 meters and Mansi from GDC Billawar, who took the bronze with a jump of 7.96 meters.
The women’s 400-meter race saw Khushi Verma from PG Deptt JU take the gold with a time of 1:12.32, followed by Reena Devi of GDC Billawar, who claimed the silver at 1:13.35, and Lakshmi Devi from GCW Udhampur, who earned the bronze. In the men’s 1500-meter race, Sumit Chibber from GDC Akhnoor took the gold with a time of 4:35.8, while Nikhil Kumar of GDC Doda secured the silver with 4:36.1, and Amit Singh from GDC Pouni earned the bronze with a time of 4:44.3. In the women’s 1500-meter race, Simran Sharma from GCW Udhampur won gold with a time of 6:26:21, while Sanjana Yadav of GDC Poonch finished second with a time of 6:39. Vishali Devi from GDC Kathua took third place with a time of 6:56:55.
In the discus throw event, Mohd. Azam of PG Deptt JU dominated the men’s competition with a throw of 27.76 meters, followed by Navdeep Singh from PG Deptt Jammu University, who secured silver with 26.97 meters, and Sarbjeet Hira from GDC R.S Pura, who earned the bronze with a throw of 24.38 meters. In the women’s discus throw, Sonia Kour from GDC Pouni claimed the gold with a distance of 20.93 meters, while Sonika Sharma of PG Deptt JU won silver with a throw of 18.93 meters and Lakshika Jamwal from PG Dept Jammu University secured the bronze with a throw of 18.09 meters.
