JAMMU, June 1: The 1st Online Open J&K UT Taekwondo Poomsae Championship, 2020 concluded here today.
The event was held by Jammu Kashmir Taekwondo Association (JKTA) in collaboration with the Atul International Taekwondo Academy (AITA) and was supported by Universal Sports India.
This was the first time in the history of Indian Taekwondo that such a type of event was organized.
Around 120 players all over the Union Territory took part in the event.
“The Championship had some of the guest participants from USA and Oman, in order to provide a professional exposure to the athletes of J&K UT,” said the organizers.
DN Pangotra, President of JKTA said that, the main aim of the Championship was to promote Poomsae in particular and Taekwondo sport in general, adding the event gave experience to the athletes for such further competitions.
He also said some of the parents also participated in the Championship and the association was looking forward to organize an event for the parents also in order to help them stay fit and also motivate the young athletes.
Nissar Hussain, Vice President JKTA said that the event was held to motivate the athletes to train in these tough times when the whole world was under the lockdown. He also thanked one and all who supported in the smooth functioning of the event.
Jaghjit Singh, General Secretary, JKTA also spoke on the occasion.
The organising committee included Anuj Sharma (Organizing secretary, JKTA), Zaheer Abbas Khan (Treasurer, JKTA), Vinod Grewal (Event Coordinator), Rajan Singh (International referee), Sarbjeet Singh (International Referee), Burhaan Khan (National Referee) and Danish Manzoor (International player).
The event was held under the supervision of Master Atul Pangotra (International Player/ Coach/ Referee) who was also the Head Jury of the Championship.
