Exciting competitions under Khelo-India witnessed across State

SAMBA, Oct 16: Exciting competitions were witnessed in various disciplines of sports under Khelo India scheme across the State.
In Table Tennis Championship under Khelo India, the title winners included Saksham, Abhishek Khajuria and Maanay Mansotra (Jr boys); Iknoor Kour, Suhani Kour and Ragini Gupta (Jt girls); Iknoor and Ragini, Suhani and Hargun, Isha and Vidushi (Jr girls doubles) and Hanumat Sharma and Saksham, Akhilesh Khajuria and Maanay AND Vishav Partap Charak and his partner (Jr boys doubles).
Subsequent to the grand opening ceremony of Block Level competitions under Khelo-India scheme, events of Badminton, Wrestling, Volleyball and Kabbadi were held in Samba.
On the occasion, Addl Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samba Faisal Qureshi, was chief guest.
Around 56 players took part in Volleyball, 64 in Kabbadi, 54 in Badminton and 20 in wrestling, informed the venue incharge Omeekashwar Samyal (PEM) and Sumit Singh (PEM).
In U/17 Boys Volleyball event, K. V Samba defeated Balori Volleyball Club, in under 20 yrs Boys Paswal Club defeated Shishu Niketan and in above 20yrs boys Friends Club (G.Mandi) defeated Mandi Sangwali.
Organized by District Table Tennis Association Poonch, Table Tennis championship under 17 age group of Khelo India concluded in Poonch today.
In Boys final, Pratham beat Ridhik 11-9,11-8. Third prize won by Zaffer in Singles. In Boys double Anuj and Pratham beat Ridhik and Zaffer 11-9,11-6. Third prize in Boys doubles won by Nipun and Baljeet. In girls final Vanchika beat Suhani Bhalla 11-6,11-9. Third prize won by Bhoomi Kandhari in Singles. In Girls doubles, Vanshika and Bhoomi beat Suhani and Dayanshi 11-6,11-7. Third prize won by Pyanshi Kandhari and Anushka devi in girls doubles.
On the occasion ADDC Poonch Abdul Hamid Sheikh was chief guest and Dy.SP HQ Nawaz Khaney was guest of honour.
As part of Khelo India Sports initiative taken up by the Government of India on the theme “Peace and Development”, District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash today formally kick-started Khelo India sports event here at Showket Ali Stadium.
Army Public School Ratnuchak emerged victorious in the Jammu district Khelo India Basketball championship that concluded at MA stadium here, beating APS Akhnoor 47-42 in a cliffhanger.
The final match was keenly contested with lead changing sides frequently right till the end. It was only in the final moments of the fourth quarter that Ratnuchak boys raised their offensive on the opponents who made too many mistakes at the crucial juncture.
As per the Khelo India norms, winners were given a cash award of Rs. 18000 while runners up and second runners up were given Rs. 12000 and 6000 respectively.
District Development Commissioner, Angrez Singh Rana today inaugurated Sports festival under ‘Khelo India’-Sports for Peace and Development, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
Around 654 students including 409 boys and 245 girls from 22 schools attended the function.
The prize distribution ceremony of district Jammu Khelo India athletics championship which was organized by J&K Amateur Athletics Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council was today held at Guru Harikrishan Public School Nanak Nagar here.
Prizes/medals were distributed among the winners by cheif guest Rita Popli, Principal Guru Harikrishan Public School in presence of Sunil Mahajan, President J&K Athletics Association and Sharat Chander Singh, General Secretary J&K Athletics Association.
Nis Club defeated Gharota Club in Kho-Kho Championship under Khelo India Scheme which concluded here today. S Manmeet Singh was the chief guest on the valedictory function who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
