11 cueists make it to pre-quarters of 1st Jammu District Open 6 Red Ball Championship

JAMMU, Aug 24: Eleven cueists–Arjun Singh, Abishek Goswami, Mandeep Singh, Rizwan Ahmed, Adnan Loan, Abhi Gupta, Abhishek Pathania, Sourav, Jaswainder Singh, Gagandeep Singh and Fukran Wani outplayed rivals in their respective matches and sailed into the pre-quarterfinal stage of the ongoing 1st Jammu District Open 6 Red Ball Championship, being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Billiards and Snooker Association (JKBSA) at Billiards Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
In the first match, Ishan Khajuria was in no mood to win the match and lost to Arjun Singh by 3-0 (31-20, 42-29 and 53-22), whereas in the second match, Ishan Chowdhary marked a comfortable win over Aasim Rashid by straight 3-0 frames (36-25, 36-16 and 54-20).
In the third match, Sabi gave a tough fight to his opponent Ankush Sharma, but unfortunately lost the game by 3-2 frames. Ankush won the first frame by 36-20, which Sabi equalized by winning the second frame by 34-33. In the third frame, Ankush again registered win by 37-16, but lost the fourth frame to Sabi by 40-29. Sabi could not maintain the winning pace and lost the fifth and decider frame by 31-06.
In the fourth match, Abhishek Goswami and Omar Shiekh fought hard but Goswami marked the win in last frame. The first frame was won by Omar by 47-36, while the second frame was pocketed by Abhishek by 36-01. The third frame witnessed high voltage as Abhishek and Omar had neck-to-neck fight. The frame was won by Omar by 60-52. Abhishek won the fourth frame by 42-19 and equalized the game. The fifth and the decider frame was clinched by Abhishek by 28-23 and secured his position in the tournament.
In the fifth game, Mandeep Singh and Gurjeev Singh had a close match. Mandeep made a good start by winning the first frame by 38-20, but Gurjeev also proved his mettle and equalized the game by winning the second frame by 30-24. The third frame was won by Mandeep by 41-20 and Gurjeev won the forth frame by 62-19. In the final frame, Gurjeev gave a foul at the last ball and lost the game by 3-2.
Seed player Vidit Gawri sweats against Rizwan Ahmed, but failed to win the sixth game of the day. Vidit won the first frame by 50-30, while the second frame was clinched by Rizwan by 35-08. The third frame was won by Vidit by 29-0 and Rizwan equalized the game by winning the fourth frame by 36-10. Vidit could not maintain the winning speed and lost the final frame by 50-24.
In the seventh match, Adnan Loan registered win over Samarth by straight 3-0 frames (46-07, 34-18 and 35-13), whereas District Champion Abhi Gupta won the eight match of the day against Aman Sharma by 3-1 frames (14-38, 40-18, 32-22 and 42-07).
Abhishek Pathania thrashed Vipin Malhi by 3-1 frames (42-10, 35-39, 58-25 and 29-26) in the ninth match, whereas in the tenth match, Mandeep Singh sweats seed player Ishan Chowdhary by 3-1.
The eleventh match of the day was won by Sourav, who smashed Nitin Sharma by 3-1 frames (35-10, 38-28, 23-25 and 42-04) and in the twelfth match, Jaswinder Singh beat Shubham by straight 3-0 frames (35-24, 33-26 and 32-02).
The thirteenth match was scheduled between Gagandeep Singh and Akhsya Kumar, in which former got walkover.
The fourteenth match of the day was won by Abhishek Goswami, who defeated Ankhush by 3-2 frames. Ankush won the first frame by 46-17, while Abhishek clinched the second and third frames by 49-36 and 37-27. Ankush made a come back and equalized the game by winning the fourth frame by 30-24. In the final frame, Abhishek registered win over Ankush by 36-09.
In the fifteenth and last match of the day, veteran player Nikhil Kapahi was thrown out of the tourney by Furkan Wani by 3-2 (35-20, 17-48, 28-24, 21-49 and 35-31).
Meanwhile, JKBSA is inviting entries for the Sub Junior and Junior Billiard and Snooker Championship which will begin after completion of ongoing 6 Red Ball Tourney.
