PK’s sports extravaganza thrown open at Jagti

JAMMU, July 3: Kashmiri Pandit community leader and one of the founding members of cricket in J&K, Captain SK Tickoo and Chairman Panun Kashmir, Dr Ajay Chrungoo declared PK’s sports extravaganza open at Jagti, here today.
Capt Tickoo was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Charungoo presided over the function. The duo was accompanied by a galaxy of dignitaries including Daya Krishan Koul, vice chairman Panun Kashmir; Kuldeep Raina, general secretary; Behare Lal Koul, organising secretary; Satish Sher, secretary organisation and Titoo Ganjoo, senior journalist & organising secretary of the event.
The event is being organised by the Panun Kashmir with an objective to help youth get rid of fear, tension and stress caused by the ongoing global Corona virus pandemic, besides helping them showcase their sporting skill and not to derail from the mainstream.
The sporting gala is an amalgam of four separate tournaments in the disciplines of Cricket, Football, Badminton and Volleyball, besides athletics.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest while lavishing praise on the organisers said that the community youth have proved victorious at all fronts even in the exile.
Dr Chrungoo while speaking on the occasion said that sports and other allied activities are the best medium to channelize youth energy and help budding sportspersons not to fall prey to drugs and other social evils.
They said a total of 24 teams will be taking part in this mega event, with eight teams in each discipline, involving around 450 players (including 16 Badminton pairs) and 30 officials.
“We are adhering to all the SOPs and other allied Govrnment guidelines while conducting the event,” said Titoo Ganjoo.
Meanwhile, in the inaugural match, Zyeshtha Devi Football Club got the better of Knights Football Club by four goals to two (4-2) to sail into the next round. The goal scorers for Zyeshtha Devi FC were Kunal Koul, who netted two splendid goals, while Anmol Warikoo and Shivam Tickoo scored one goal each. Rahul pelted both the goals for Knights FC.
In another match of the day, Jagti FC defeated Lalitaditya FC by five goals in a close contest. Ashish displayed superb soccer skills, scoring three magnificent goals, while Vishal Rishi and Akash netted one goal each. For Lalitaditya FC, Ansh scored two goals while Satyam netted one goal.
The matches were officiated by Praduman, Abhay Bhat, Vishal and Rahul under the supervision of Susheel Ji and Pyare Lal Ji. The proceedings of the inaugural function were conducted by famous anchor Rajesh Dhar.
Meanwhile, Panun Kashmir has decided to honour the outstanding sportspersons of the community on the closing function of this sports extravaganza.
