Young Rovers outplays JKP to enter semis

JAMMU, Apr 24: Many time State Champion and one of the top departmental teams of the State, Jammu and Kashmir Police today lost to a local club of Young Rovers in the quarterfinals stages of the ongoing Ist Arun Memorial Gold Cup Football Tournament, organised by Climrate Football Club under the aegis of JKFA at Mini Stadium, Parade, here.
Earlier, the only departmental team in the competition, the J&K Police were held goalless by the Young Rovers, who later clinched the thriller via tie-breaker making it 5-4. For their poor showing, the J&K Police had to face a sharp criticism from the veteran footballers.
“Being only departmental team in the tournament, we were expecting the J&K Police to play in the final, but today’s loss in the hands of a local club dejected us all in the organising committee. The J&K Police is a champion team and I’m clueless about its continued poor showing for the last some time,” said organising secretary of the tournament, Rakesh Khanna.
Meanwhile, in another scheduled match of the day, Shaheen Football Club defeated Churchill Brothers 4-0. Ishan brought in the first blood netting the ball in the 15th minute. It was followed by two back to back goals from Vishal, who struck in the 46th and 50th minute. Deepanshu made it a big win with fourth goal that came in the 55th minute of the match.
Today’s matches were witnessed besides others by the special guests, Amarjeet Singh, Shiv Paul, Yousaf Don, Narinder Gupta, Rajesh, Charanjeet Singh, Mohan Lal and Sardari Lal.
