Yonex-Sunrise Inter-State Badminton C’ship commences at MA Stadium

JAMMU, Sept 8: The Yonex-Sunrise Inter-State Badminton Championship, organised by J&K Badminton Association under the auspices of Badminton Association of India in collaboration with J&K Sports Council, commenced at Indoor Sports Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
The championship was inaugurated by Dr OD Sharma, vice president Badminton Association of India and Chairman Badminton Association of J&K.
About 250 players and officials of seven North Zone States including Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and J&K are participating in the tournament in senior/junior under-19 team as well as individual events.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest underlined the need for more and more sports in the Union Territory as well as in the country and assured to provide all the possible help from the Association.
In today’s senior matches, Punjab defeated Rajasthan by 3-1 wherein Lakshya Sharma beat Pranay Katta in men single (MS), while Radhika Sharma trounced Sakhsi Phogat in women single (WS) and in mixed double (MD), pair of Himanshu Khatana & Shibham Patel beat Abhinav & Love Kumar, besides in women double (WD), Manya Ralman and Tanvi Sharma beat Kazmeen Khan & Priyanka Kumawat.
Chandigarh trounced Himachal Pradesh by 3-0 wherein Abhishek Saini beat Karan Choudhary in men’s singles, while Garima Singh beat Simran in women’s singles and Abhishek Saini & Samarveer beat Parthive & Samaksh Dhalta in mixed doubles.
Haryana defeated J&K by 3-0 wherein Goutam Walia beat Raghav Dogra (MS), while Anupma Upadhyaya beat Krishika Mahajan (WS) and Akshit Mahajan/Hardik Makkar defeated Akshay Mahajan/ Raghav Dogra (MD).
In junior matches, Punjab got better of Chandigarh by 3-0 wherein Lakshya Sharma beat Samarveer (BS), Tanvi Sharma trounced Rajul Saini (GS) and Abhinav Thakur/Akarshit Sharma beat Krishna Sharma/ Rehaan Phutela (BD).
Jammu & Kashmir defeated Himachal Pradesh by 3-2 in which Shivansh beat Ibrahim Qureshi (BS), Unnati Jaral beat Bharti Sharma (GS), Abhijeet/Sedav defeated Arya Mehta/Parthiv (BD), Krishika Mahajan/Unnati Jaral trounced Pakhi/Preeksha (GD) and Abhijeet/Skiedeep beat Pranav Chandel/Ritika (XD).
Delhi defeated Rajasthan by 3-1 wherein Abhinav Manglam beat Manish Phogat (BS), Sakshi Phogat trounced Ishita Negi (GS), Rudransh Negi/Shivansh Negi beat Aditya Rajoria/Murli Sharma (BD) and Isobel Kurian/Stuti Agarwal defeated Bhawna Sharma/ Suman Sharma (GD).
