JAMMU, June 2: A workshop on the topic “Research Innovation in Machine Learning” was conducted for the faculty and students of Departments of MCA and Computer Science and Engineering at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Kot Bhalwal.
The main resource person for the workshop was Prof Vinod Sharma, Head of Computer Science and IT Department, University of Jammu.
Welcoming Prof Vinod for this workshop, Prof SK Sharma, Principal MIET brought out the need for conducting research programmes at the college levels.
Prof Vinod Sharma in a very simplistic manner, explained various techniques used in artificial intelligence. He also explained the significance of data mining, neural networks, pattern recognition and other software features needed to make a machine intelligent.
He also brought out as to how the software techniques are being used to analyse the data of human samples to diagnose the fatal diseases. He is currently conducting research on the cervical cancer which is a deadly disease prevalent mostly in South Asian countries including India.
Prof Sharma has already collected samples of smear tests from various hospitals of J&K and Punjab and is in the process of writing software programs which would help in early diagnosis and cure of this fatal disease.
In the second phase of the workshop, Prof Vinod Sharma interacted with the students of MCA Department.
Prof GS Sambyal, Senior Prof at MIET and Ex-Registrar, University of Jammu was also present to guide the students.
Complete event was coordinated by Salim Qureshi, HoD CSE Department who presented vote of thanks at culmination of the programme.
