JAMMU, Nov 30: The Wrestling Association of Jammu and Kashmir (WAJK) has announced its 21-member team for the 2024 Senior Men Free Style, Greco Roman Style National Wrestling Championship, scheduled to be held at Bengaluru, Karnataka from December 6 to 8.
The team selection, carried out under the chairmanship of Basdev, President of WAJK, was supported by a thorough screening process conducted by the J&K Sports Council officials, including Baljinder Singh, Divisional Sports Officer Jammu, at MA Stadium.
The team includes a mix of experienced and promising wrestlers, with notable names like Ishaq Ahmed, who recently bagged a gold medal at the All India Police Games 2024, and is expected to be a strong contender in the Senior National Championship. Other wrestlers in the squad include Mohd. Aslam (57kg), Natter Singh (61kg), Keshav Singh (65kg), Chain Singh (70kg), Jarnail Singh (74kg), Mohd. Saddek (79kg), Muneer Ahmed (86kg), Surjeet Singh (92kg), Nadeem Ahmed (97kg), and Ishaq Ahmed (125kg). In the Greco-Roman category, the team will feature wrestlers like Vishal Choudhary (63kg), Gulam Sawar (67kg), Sahil Dagoria (72kg), Surya Dev (77kg), Amarjeet (82kg), Shamahoon (87kg), and Amit Singh (130kg). The women’s team comprises Upasana (55kg), Samriti (62kg), and Sunakshi (76kg).
Kusum Rani and Vireshwar Bhardwaj will accompany the team as coaches. The team is expected to deliver strong performances at the upcoming competition.
