JAMMU, Nov 15: Outplaying almost equally strong rival Abhi Gupta in the summit clash, ace cueist Vidit Gauri claimed title in Jammu District Senior Snooker Championship, which is as part of the ongoing 23rd Jammu District Junior and Senior Billiards and Snooker Championship, being organized by J&K Billiards and Snooker Association at MA Stadium, here.
In the best of seven frames title clash, Vidit drubbed Abhi (4-3) in a well fought match by (64-26, 44-52, 26-66, 64-17, 15-54, 55-39, 14-57) to emerge champion. Abhi toppled Vidit in the first frame, while Vidit came back strongly to win two back to back frames, then Abhi won the fourth frame to make it 2-2. In a tough battle, Vidit won the fifth frame, making it (3-2) in his favour, however, Abhi equalized the score by winning the sixth frame. But it was, Vidit who held his nerves in the crunch situation to win the seventh frame by (14-57) to emerge as winner.
Meanwhile, semifinals lineup has been drawn in Junior Snooker at Srinagar, with Azan, Faisal, Aamir and Owais making it to the last four stage.
In today’s quarterfinal match, Azan Rashid got better of Zuhaib (2-0) by (44-33, 83-20).
In Senior Snooker at Srinagar, Raahil and Imran Wani have sealed berth in the semifinals.
Raahil prevailed over Younis Kuchey by (29-56, 55-07, 26-73, 71-43, 73-40) in first quarterfinal of Senior Snooker and Imran Wani defeated Waseem Shah by (68-36, 58-45, 31-53, 66-41).
