Veterans to lock horns with Teachers in Ashok Sodhi Memorial Tourney final today

JAMMU, May 10: The Veterans Cricket Association J&K XI will lock horns with Teachers Association in the final of the ongoing Ashok Sodhi Memorial Cricket Tournament, being played at Maulana Azad Stadium here tomorrow.
The tournament is being organized by the Press Club of Jammu in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council under ‘My Youth My Pride’ programme.
The Press Club of Jammu is organizing the tournament as a tribute in memory of senior photojournalist Ashok Sodhi-who had attained martyrdom while performing his professional duties during a fierce encounter between militants and security forces at Samba on May 11, 2008.
In the first semifinal, Teachers Association defeated Jaguar Cricket Club by 6 wickets, while in the second semifinals; Veterans Cricket Association trounced Rotary Club by 8 wickets.
Jaguar Cricket Club for the loss of eight wickets set a target of 130 runs against Teachers Association, which was chased Teacher Association easily in 16.4 overs (131) to enter the final. Tabu and Abhishek scored 35 and 26 runs respectively from the losing side, while Anmol from the winning side was the main scorer who scored 35 runs off 25 deliveries with four hits to the fence.
In the second match, Veterans Cricket Club bundled Rotary Club for 69 runs in 10 overs as Vicky crippled their inning with a six-wicket haul. Rohit Bhagat was the lone highest scorer with 19 runs from the Rotary Club side.
Chasing the target, Veterans for the loss of two wickets, scored 70 runs in 7.4 overs and sailed into the final to meet Teachers Association here at the mentioned venue tomorrow in a day-night match.
Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Rahul Yadav was the special guest on the third day of the tournament, while the office bearers and members of the management committee of Press Club of Jammu were also present on the occasion.
