Uttarakhand outplays HP, Punjab holds Haryana to draw

JAMMU, Feb 11: Uttarakhand defeated Himachal Pradesh, while Punjab held Haryana to draw in the ongoing 70th National Football Championship Santosh Trophy North Zone, being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA), in collaboration with J&KK State Sports Council, under the aegis of All India Football Federation at GGM Science College Football ground, here.
Now Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab have qualified for the knockout stage and will proceed to Nagpur for the same.
In the first match played today, Uttarakhand defeated Himachal Pradesh by three goals to nil (3-0). The first goal was scored by Saurabh Rawat in 14th minute, while the second and third goals were scored by Vijay Pal Singh Negi in 34th and 54th minutes respectively. Yellow card was shown to Akshay Malik of Himachal Pradesh in 34th minute.
In another match played today, formidable Punjab held almost equally poised Haryana to (1-1) draw. For Punjab, Ajay Singh pelted the goal in 79th minute, while for Haryana, the goal was scored by Arvind in 91st minute via penalty. Yellow card was shown to Prabhjot Singh and Vishal of Punjab in 40th and 92nd minutes and Sumit of Haryana in 81st minute.
The matches were officiated by Uttam Sarkar, Bugai Soren, Deepu Roy, Nasirruddin, Tejas Nagvenicar, Imran Sheikh, Akash Jackson and Parmanand Mandnekar
Javaid Ahmed Shah, Secretary J&K Sports Council was the chief guest on the occasion.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Sheikh Mehmood, Zamir Thakur, SA Hameed, RK Kohli, Surinder Singh (Bunty), Dr Nirmolak Singh, Shafi Nari, Fiyaz Ahmad, Suresh Gupta, Fiestas Sotra, S Kuldeep Singh, Mohan Lal, SM Gill, Ramesh Kumar, David Masih, Yousuf Don, Bishwa Mitter, Satpal Singh and Narinder Gupta.
