JAMMU, Feb 20: President J&K Weightlifting Association, Harbhajan Singh inaugurated the UT level Jammu and Kashmir Weightlifting Championship for the senior age group in both male and female categories in Indoor Hall Bhagwati Nagar, here today.
The two days championship is being organized by the J&K weightlifting Association under the aegis of J&K Sports Council in which more than 115 players from various districts are participating.
President Harbhajan Singh presided over the championship as the chief guest, whereas Ashok Singh Divisional Sports Officer Jammu distributed the prizes among the meritorious players of the day.
The Divisional Sports Officer while speaking on the occasion appreciated the efforts of the Association and its general secretary Yudhvir Singh for taking a keen interest in bringing the talent to the fore by adopting various player friendly measures.
The chief guest emphasized the need for a robust society for nation building reiterating his stand against ill sit activities and also advised the players to stay away from the menace of drugs.
“Sports play a crucial role in the growth and development of youth and help in acquiring the skills, experience and confidence that are helpful for personality development,” he added.
The performance of Ranjesh Singh para-athlete including other players mesmerized the spectators with their performances.
Rahul Singh and Sourabh Sharma stood 1st and 2nd, Parshant Sharma-1st, Arvind Kumar -1st, Maneer Mohd.-2nd, Ranjesh Singh-1st, Sant Kumar-3rd, Idrees Ahmad-1st, and Krish Saini- 2nd during the championship.
