UT level Hockey Sr Men C’ship inaugurated

JAMMU, Mar 15: Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul declared Hockey J&K’s Senior Men Championship open at KK Hakku Stadium, here today.
About 20 teams are participating from both the divisions of J&K.
Secretary Sports Council while inaugurating the championship as chief guest said that the Hockey as game is picking up very fast in both the divisions of J&K which is a good sign for the upcoming generations. She appreciated the role of president Hockey J&K, Rajeev Sharma for promoting sports in the UT especially Hockey and assured all the Associations that the Council will extend all possible help to promote sports.
Riyaz Ahmad was the guest of honour along with Ashok Singh Divisional Sports Officers.
Four matches were played on the opening day wherein Anantnag defeated the Rajouri by 4 goals to 1, while in the 2nd match played between Bandipora and Jammu West was won by Jammu West by 7 goals to 1 and in the 3rd match Jammu University emerged winner by defeating Pulwama by 17 goals to 1, besides in the 4th match played between Kathua and Kulgam, was won by Kathua by a margin of 21 goals to nil.
Kuldip Gupta of Kabaddi Association, Zorawar Singh of Team Jammu and Atul Gupta from Chess Association also addressed the gathering during the inaugural ceremony.
The matches were officiated by Tanveerul Haq, Brijesh Kumar, Salim, Sunil and Anjali Thakur.
