Srinagar, Nov 28: A new sports pavilion constructed by Army under the BADP project at Uri was inaugurated today by Maj Gen VG Khandare, Dagger Division in presence of civil administration and a host of eminent dignitaries.
A spokesman of the Army claimed executed at a cost of around Rs 31 lakhs, the sprawling stadium has a seating capacity of 300, a state-of-art pavilion including TT room and automatic sensor doors, the only one of its kind in north Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, the GOC appreciated the efforts of Kala Pahar Brigade and said that such endeavors would go a long way in channelizing the energies of the youth and fostering a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
In the meantime, the three day inter school zonal conclave “Karishma” concluded in an impressive ceremony at Uri today.
A spokesman of the army said General Officer Commanding, Dagger Division, Maj Gen V G Khandare, presided over the closing ceremony.
The spokesman claimed the conclave provided a platform to the children to showcase their talent in sports and co-curricular activities.
The team from Chandanwadi zone was adjudged first in both quiz and cultural event whereas Boniyar zone won the Cricket and Uri zone emerged winners in Volley Ball competition.
In the individual events Sadiy Sultan of Chandanwadi zone won the debate competition and laurels in painting were bagged by Safia of Jula Zone.
Uri Zone also won the Art and Craft and Tug of War events. Abid Mir won the coveted Best Teacher Award. The best zone trophy was bagged by Uri Zone.
Speaking on the occasion, the GOC appreciated the efforts of Kala Pahar Brigade for organizing the first of its kind event in Uri that has generated remarkable interest and participation from all quarters.
