Union Sports Ministry accepts Taj’s suggestion of holding 2 football events

JAMMU, FEB 20: The Centre has agreed to the suggestion of Jammu and Kashmir Government to host a mega football event in Kashmir during the summers this year.
This suggestion to hold such a football event was mooted by Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din few months back and today the same was approved during a meeting convened by Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) at New Delhi.
Prominent football teams like Mohammaden Sporting Club, Kolkatta; Air India; ONGC; Goa Football Club; J&K Football-XI; J&K Police XI; J&K SRTC-XI& PDC-XI shall be participating in this tournament. The venues for all the matches have been fixed at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar, Astro Turf TRC, Baramulla and Bandipora.
The meeting also decided that such football cups will be made an annual feature.
Also the meeting decided to hold I-League Federation Cup for Football in Srinagar, wherein National and International teams are expected to participate.
The meeting decided that Air India would provide concessional tickets to the players visiting Srinagar in connection with these events.
The meeting was attended by Onkar Kedia, Joint Secretary, MYAS, Dileep Thusu, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Neeraj Kansil, Secretary, Sports Authority of India, Khushal Dass, President All India Football Federation, General Secretary Air India, Deputy Secretary Ministry of Civil Aviation, Director Ministry of Home Affairs and other officers of Central and State Governments.
