Time ripe to develop Int’l standard stadia to promote cricketers: Dr Farooq

JAMMU, Apr 29: Kishen Chand Cricket Club (KCCC) and Vishal Rising Stars lifted the Senior and Junior title trophies respectively in the 1st Patel Memorial T20 Invitational Cup Cricket Tournament, organized by Patel Cricket Club at Parade Cricket Ground, here today.
Dr Farooq Abdullah, Member of Parliament and former President of JKCA was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while Davinder Rana, Provincial President National Conference and MLA was the guest of honour.
Nasir Aslam Wani, Former Minister, Dr Ashutosh Sharma, former Chairman JKCA and Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman Sports Council Jammu were the special guests.
The chief guest alongwith other dignitaries distributed the trophies among the winners and runners-up teams in presence of JKCA members Jang Bahadur Singh Jamwal and Sham Swaroop Kalsotra and a galaxy of senior cricketers.
Those who were honoured by the chief guest included Roopali Slathia, Veena Sharma, Rajni Sharma, Anuradha Sharma, Madhu Bandral, Payal Choudhary, Meenu Singh Slathia, Sarla Devi, Sandhya (all women cricketers), besides Sant Singh, Madan Mohan, Kuldeep Singh, Gayaneshwer Sharma, Sham Kalsotra, Randhir Singh, Vidhya Baskar, Kamaljeet Singh, Ashvinder Koul and Vijay Saberwal.
In his address, Dr. Farooq lauded the efforts of Jang Bahadur and his organizing team for conducting this mega event.
While wishing J&K players to represent IPL and India teams, Dr Farooq said that time was ripe to develop International stadia in the State to promote budding cricketers, adding that the State had identified land for International Stadium at Bajalta but due to some technical reasons, the project failed to mature.
Advising the players o be humble at all stages and all levels, Dr Abdullah said that it is the humility and discipline which pays in every filed, not to talk of sports field only.
He asked Ranjeet Kalra to take initiatives through Sports Council in providing a Gym at Parade Ground to facilitate players.
Provincial President NC, Davinder Rana also addressed the gathering and encouraged the young cricketers.
Earlier, Jang Bahadur Singh Jamwal presented welcome address and gave brief report of the tournament.
The tournament was organized  by  Patel Cricket Club under the agies of JKCA under the supervision of Jang Bahadur Singh and Vijay Sharma and the Organizing Committee members included Rajesh Gill, Vijay Saberwal, Rajesh Dhar, Sachin, RP Singh, Sudhir Singh and Saleem-Ur-Rehman.
In Under-16 final, Vishal Rising Stars defeated KCCC Juniors by 6 runs. Vishal Rising Stars scored 166 runs in 20 overs. Musaif Ajaz top scored with 59 runs, while Udhay Partap Singh and Aditpal Singh contributed 28 and 23 runs respectively. Aqib took 2 wickets, while Gurdaat Singh and Snoop Bhagat shared 1 wicket each.
In reply, KCCC Juniors scored 160 by losing 4 wickets to lose the match by a narrow margin of 6 runs.
Dikshant Kundal top scored with 97 runs, while Samarpit contributed 41 runs. Aditpal Singh took 3 wickets, while Sachin claimed one. Dikshant was declared as the man of the match, while Musaif was adjudged as the man of the series. Vishal Rising Stars team was coached by Madan Mohan.
In open tournament, KCCC defeated JCC by a big margin of 85 runs. Batting first, KCCC scored a huge total of 211 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Bandeep Singh (63), Vimarsh Kaw (43) and Ramdayal (39) were the main scorers. Rajeev took 2 wickets, while Shubam claimed one.
In reply, JCC bundled out for 136 runs in 17.5 overs, thus lost the match by 85 runs. Vishvajeet Singh (27) and Sandeep (17)  were the main scorers. Manik Gupta took 3 wickets and Ankush Bandral claimed 2 wickets. Bandeep Singh was declared as the man of the match and Vivrant Sharma was adjudged as the man of the series. Former Member BCCI and Working Committee Member JKCA, Ankush Abrol was the mentor of the KCCC team.
Renowned commentators Rajesh Dhar and RP Singh conducted the proceedings of the valedictory function. They were also honoured by the chief guest on the occasion.
