JAMMU, July 9: Continuing their remarkable performance on the national stage, three fencers from Jammu and Kashmir — Dhananjay Pandit, Amish Sharma and Subhanaya Sharma — have been shortlisted by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for the prestigious Khelo India National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) program.
The trio was selected based on their outstanding performances in the 2024–25 calendar year in the Sabre category of fencing. While Dhananjay Pandit and Amish Sharma have been shortlisted for NCOE Aurangabad, Subhanaya Sharma will train at the elite Army Sports Institute in Pune.
Under the Khelo India NCOE scheme, SAI will provide comprehensive support including international standard equipment, coaching, education, diet, insurance, sports science and exposure to national and international competitions.
Pandit and Sharma are currently training under Ujjwal Gupta, a former international Sabre fencer and PET with DYSS, while Subhanaya is coached by Rachna Jamwal and Shotu Lal Sharma of J&K Sports Council.
President Vijay Kumar, Secretary General Supriya Chouchan and Khelo India TIDC Member Rashid Ahmed Choudhary of J&K Fencing Association lauded the fencers.
