Teenage cricketer dies after hit by ball during match in Anantnag

* Guv announces ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh

ANANTNAG, July 11: A teenage cricketer died after being hit by the ball during an Under-17 cricket match in this south Kashmir district today, official sources said.
During the match between Budgam and Baramulla at Nanil sports stadium, a player identified as Jahangeer Ahmad War was hit by the ball in his neck while trying to execute a pull shot.
Jahangeer, a resident of Goshbugh Pattan, Baramulla was immediately rushed to local hospital at Mattan where he was declared as brought dead.
Advisors to Governor K Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ahmad Ganai on Wednesday had inaugurated divisional level inter district cricket tournament at Government Higher Secondary School, Bijbehara, Anantnag.
The students in the categories of Under 14, u/17 and u/19 are participating in the week long tournament organised by District Youth Services and Sports department Anantnag.
Meanwhile, Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed grief and shock over the unfortunate death of a young cricketer who died while playing a match in Anantnag district.
Meanwhile, in a condolence message, Governor SP Malik has conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Governor has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.(UNI)
