GULMARG, Mar 7: The first team from Ladakh to participate in the Khelo India Winter Games at Gulmarg has reached the venue under the leadership of National Coach, Sadiq Ali.
“It is for the first time that a team form Ladakh is participating in a National Level Winter Championship in the events like Skiing, Alpine Ski, and Snow Boarding etc.,” said Sadiq Ali while talking to EXCELSIOR.
He said the Ladakhi contingent comprises of 12 players as most of the national players were not able to participate due to non availability of Flights.
“Ladakh has great potential in winter sports and can emerge as an alternative destination for winter sports during 6 months of the year. For that matter, we request the Union Minister to take initiatives with regard to raising basic infrastructure at Drass and Suru in Kargil district for Snow Skiing,” Mr Ali said.
