JAMMU, Feb 6: 35th Annual Prize Distribution Function of Tawi Trekkers J&K was held at K L Saigal Hall, here today.
On this occasion, a number of sport climbers, mountaineers, institutions which promote adventure activities and prominent members of the club were honoured by the chief guest Anil Goswami, Former Home Secretary, Government of India in presence of the guests of honour, Prof Lalit Magotra, Advisor of the Club, S. Bhattacharjee, Chairman, Indian Mountain-eering Foundation, North Zone Committee and Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Co-Chairman of the Club.
The main attraction of the Prize Distribution Function was Shivani Charak who brought laurels to the Club and the State by winning two gold medals and one silver medal in the National Sport Climbing Championship held at Indore in December, 2017 besides winning two gold medals each in the North Zone and St. Stephen’s College’s Competition and one gold medal in the IMF North Zone Speed Competition held at Delhi.
Sixteen years old Shivani, a student of Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Domana, Jammu who also represented the country in the World Cup Sport Climbing Competition in June 2017, was honoured with medals, a memento and cash prize of Rs 10000 sponsored by Sprawling Buds School and Indian Mountaineering Foun-dation, North Zone Committee, New Delhi.
Mrityunjay Sharma who clinched one Silver and two bronze medals in the National Competition and two gold and one silver medal in the North Zone Competition besides one gold each in IMF North Zone Speed competition and St. Stephen College’s competition and also represented the country in the World Cup Sport Climbing Competition was honoured with a memento and a cash prize of Rs 3000 sponsored by St Xavier Sr Secondary School, Barnai Jammu.
Ritesh Sharma of SOS Hermann Gmeiner School who bagged two bronze medals in the National Competition, was also honoured with a memento and a cash prize of Rs.2000 sponsored by Oriental Academy Sr. Secondary School, Jammu.
Other sport climbers who were also facilitated on the occasion included Arun Deep Singh, Ajay Deep Singh, Asma Gul, Shilpa Charak, Ambreen Fatima And Samisha Manhas.
Three visually challenged girls of LBM Residential School for Sightless Girls and two boys of Residential School for Blind(Boys), Jammu who won 5 medals in the North Zone Sport Climbing Competition for Visually challenged persons were also facilitated on the occasion.
The Dedication Award for the year 2017 was conferred upon Sumit Khajuria, Nishu Dubey, Fazal Ahmad and Monika Aima for their single minded dedication and devotion to promote trekking and sport climbing in the state.
Everester Ram Singh Slathia and Sonam Sidharth, Directors of Himalayan Trekking Programmes organized by the club were also honoured along with Shashi Kant and Manik Slathia who successfully conducted various activities of the Club.
Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab was honoured with a Dedication Award for outstanding services to the cause of adventure along with St. Xavier Sr. Sec. School, Barnai and Oriental Sr. Sec. School, Jammu. 11 other institutions were also awarded for their participation in club’s various activities.
Earlier, Sonam Sidharth, Joint Secretary of the club, in his annual report, highlighted the activities organised by the club during the year 2017, while Ram Khajuria, President of the club read the welcome address the vote of thanks was presented by Himani Choudhary, an executive member of the club.
The function was anchored by Arti Sharma, Principal of Apple Kids Bantalab, Jammu.
