JAMMU, July 9: Jammu’s ace Powerlifter Sweety Sharma has made the country and J&K proud by clinching Gold and Silver medals at Asian African Pacific Powerlifting Championship held in Himeji, Japan, from July 5 to 13.
Competing in the under-76 kg category, Sweety secured Gold in Equipped Bench Press and Silver in Classic Bench Press, outshining strong competitors from New Zealand, Japan and South Africa.
A former national-level cricketer, Sweety transitioned into powerlifting with great success. An alumna of DBN Vidya Mandir, she completed her graduation from Parade College and earned her law degree from Jammu University. She currently serves as an Additional Officer with Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR).
Sweety’s decorated career includes a Gold medal at the 2024 Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship in South Africa and a strong showing at the World Powerlifting Championship in Texas, USA. A three-time National Gold Medallist, she has been honoured with the Naari Shakti Award and Utkrisht Seva Award by the Railway Minister.
Expressing gratitude, Sweety credited her success to CONCOR, CWWO, her coaches, family and especially her husband Anil Tagotra and daughter Akanksha, a fitness enthusiast.
