Survey of India scripts narrow win in CGWECC Cricket Tourney

JAMMU, Mar 7: Survey of India (SoI) got better of Central Water Commission (CWC) by 2 wickets in the ongoing Cricket Tournament being organized by the central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee (CGWECC) at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here.
12 teams from Central Government Organizations are participating in this knockout tournament, which is being held to help the Central Government Employees interact with each other through the medium of sports, who otherwise are always under work load and stress.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, CWC team bundled out for a paltry total of 86 runs in 17.3 overs. Sham Lal Tandotra was the top scorer with 19 runs, while Vinod Pandita contributed 13 runs to the total. No other batsman could cross the double figure mark. For Survey of India, Shashi Jamwal was the most successful bowler, who scalped 3 important wickets, while Maheshwar Singh, Sanjeev Sharma and Rana shared 2 wickets each.
In reply, Survey of India chased the target by losing 8 wickets, thus won the match in a close contest by 2 wickets. Brief contributions from four to five batsmen helped the Survey of India to register a narrow win. For CWC, Sham Lal Tandotra was the wrecker-in-chief, who bagged 4 important wickets by conceding 13 runs in his 4 overs, while Munish took 2 wickets. Brij Bhushan and Samson claimed one wicket each. For his brilliant all-round display, Sham Lal Tandotra of CWC, who is also chairman Sports Committee CGEWCC, was adjudged as man of the match.
The match was officiated by former Ranji Trophy players Vimarsh Kaw and Anoop Mangotra as umpires, while Deepak Balotra was the scorer.
The Tournament is being held under the overall supervision of VK Bakshi, Deputy Accountant General Audit J&K.
Prominent among other executives present on the occasion were BS Bhan and Rishi Kumar.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Doorshan will take on Excise, Taxation and Customs at 9 am, while Intelligence Bureau will lock horns with Telecommunic-ation at 1 pm.
