Suru Valley Singing Competition concludes

KARGIL, Dec 26: The two-days Suru Valley Singing Competition 2012 concluded at Khumbathang, here today.
60 students participated in individual and group category in the preliminary round and in the final round 16 students participated in the individual category and 15 in group category.
The Competition was divided into two sections -Folk and Hindi Song category.
The competition was organized by the 8 Mountain Artillery Brigade under Operation Sadhbhavna to unveil the hidden talent of the rural children of Suru Valley.
On this occasion the GOC 8 Mountain Division Major General Shokeen Chouhan was the chief guest and the Deputy Commander 8 Mountain Artillery Brigade was the guest of honour.
While interacting with the students the chief guest said that the Indian Army is organizing such programmes in the far flung villages of Kargil to uplift the self confidence and to make them aware about their hidden talents. He later-on distributed prizes and trophies among the finalists.
Talking to our correspondent Anayat Ali the GOC told that such event will be conducted at every village level and in March a grand Cultural Show at District Level will be conducted and announced Rs 25000 for the winner of the competition.
