Sumit defeats Meenal, leads in Senior State ‘A’ Chess C’ship

JAMMU, Feb 8: Sumit Grover defeated young Meenal Gupta and emerged sole leader with 6.5 points after round seven of the ongoing Senior State “A” Chess Tournament being organised by All J&K Chess Association under the aegis of J&K State Sports Council here today.
Meenal Gupta is following at second place with 6 points while Maxim Singh is at third place with 5.5 points. Mohammad Sharief is at 4th place with 5 points.
The matches were supervised by Atul Kumar Gupta, President, All J&K Chess Association, while Ajit Singh is the chief arbiter of this event.
In the tournament, a total of 14 players–7 players from Kashmir division and 7 from Jammu division are participating.
In round 7 today, Faisal Farooq beat Sheikh Najmus Sakib, Maxim Singh thrashed Rohit Bhardwaj, Arvindu trounced Pranav Sharma, Sumit Grover defeated Meenal Gupta, Mohammad Rafiq crushed Amir Yousuf Bhat, Soham Kamotra outplayed Mohammad Sharief and Javaid Ahmed beat Shahid Mushtaq.
Earlier, in round 6, Shahid Mushtaq beat Sheikh Najmus Sakib, Mohammad Sharief thrashed Javaid Ahmed, Soham Kamotra trounced Amir Yousuf Bhat, Meenal Gupta crushed Mohammad Rafiq, Sumit Grover defeated Pranav Sharma, Rohit Bhardwaj routed Arvindu Sharma and Maxim Singh outclassed Faisal Farooq.
