BARAMULLA, July 6: Sultan Warriors trounced Star-XI Baramulla with thin margin of seven runs in the final match in Swarnim Vijay Varsh KPL-2021, organised by Indian Army in collaboration with Baramulla Cricket Forum, here today.
The tournament was organised by the Army to commemorate the India victory over Pakistan in the year 1971 war.
The motive of the tournament was to elevate sportsmen spirit and brotherhood among the youth, to identify the natural talent and also to train and prepare them for UT and National level trial camps. The tournament was played on knockout basis wherein top 16 teams, out of 48 teams were invited to play the quarter-finals league matches.
The inaugural match of tournament was played at Jhelum Stadium between Star-XI Baramulla and Pengong-XI.
The tournament was testimony of Army’s commitment to provide the youth of Kashmir a platform to showcase their talent and channelize their youthful exuberance in positive manners. “The event was well appreciated by the locals and they also requested that such events should be conducted at large scale to strengthen the bonhomie between Jawaan and Awaam,” said an Army official.
Later, best players were awarded with cash awards, cricket gears as well as mementos.
