New Delhi, Dec 22:
Parvez Rasool played a captain’s knock as his sixth first-class century propelled Jammu and Kashmir to a commendable first-innings score of 497 against Baroda in a group league encounter of the Ranji Trophy cricket tournament, here today.
Rasool scored 136 off 175 balls with the help of 16 boundaries and also added 143 runs for the eighth wicket with all-rounder Ram Dayal (124 no), who hit his maiden century in Ranji Trophy. Dayal hit 15 boundaries and a six off 192 balls.
In reply, hosts Baroda made a solid start reaching 116 for no loss at stumps on the second day of the match.
Openers Saurabh Wakaskar (60 batting) and Kedar Devdhar (54 batting) mixed caution with aggression in the 34 overs that they played on the day.
Earlier, starting the day at 266 for six, Rasool saw overnight not-out batsman Samiullah Beigh (1) get our cheaply before he was joined by Dayal. The two then scored at a steady clip adding 143 in close to 33 overs as J&K surpassed the 400-run mark.
When Rasool was finally dismissed by off-spinner Aditya Waghmode trying to give him the charge, J&K had reached a challenging total.
But Dayal continued to defy the Baroda bowlers as he added 46 runs for the ninth wicket with Waseem Raza and 38th for the final wicket with Umar Nazir (8) as he duly completed his first century in first-class cricket. For Baroda, left-arm spinner Swapnil Singh grabbed 6 for 152.
