JAMMU, Feb 11: Calling upon youngsters to take active part in sports and games, State Vice-President BJP, Yudhvir Sethi said that besides nurturing body and mind of the players, sports is a good career option.
“Our youth have immense talent and all out efforts are being made by various government and sports associations to provide best possible sports facilities for the players in the state,” Mr Sethi said.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of the 3-day District Jammu Handball Championship as chief guest at MA Stadium, here today.
The championship is being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Handball Association, under the supervision of Ashwani Kumar Raina, General Secretary in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Raina highlighted the activities of the Handball Association and extended thanks to Yudhvir Sethi for active support to the cause of the sports.
He said that the association encourages budding talent and provides opportunities to sportspersons who want to take the game at professional level.
Prominent among others who were present on the occasion were Dr SM Bali (President J&K Handball Association and CEO Handball Federation of India), Ranjit Singh Chib (Vice President J&K Handball Association & Selector Handball Federation of India), Sandeep Verma (Press Secretary J&K Handball Association), Ramesh Mahajan (Life Member J&K Handball Association) and Dev Raj (SAI Coach).
The final match in men’s section was played between Sandeep Pal Club and STC in which STC defeated Sandeep Pal Club by 30-23.
The main scorer for STC was Rakesh who scored 7 goals, while the main scorer for Sandeep Pal Club was Rahul who netted 8 goals.
The matches were officiated by Shekhar Dutta,Gaurav Sharma and Rohit Wadhan.
