JAMMU, Dec 15: SAI Training Centre Jammu established their supremacy on the Day -1 of the Senior State Basketball Championship which got underway at the MA Stadium here today.
Besides the STC, the men teams of Jammu, Udhampur and Kathua districts also gave spirited performances in their respective matches. Eight matches were played on the first day of the championship being organized by the J&K Basketball Association.
In the first match of the day, STC club, the team of the younger players outplayed their experienced counterparts from Jammu district by 52-50 in a cliffhanger. The winning team was trailing by 21-27 at the half time. Abhinav Sharma was top scorer for the winners with 20 points and was ably assisted by Gourav Rajwal, Shivam Heer and Sumit Kumar. For the losing side, Prannav Dubey and Rishab Bakshi made useful contributions.
In the second match, Kathua men gave some anxious moments to STC terriers, before bowing down by 32-45. The teams were poised neck to neck at the breather with scoreline reading 15-16. Kunal Gupta from the STC terriers top scored with 17 points while Arjun fought a valiant battle for his team.
In the last match of the day, defending champions STC warriors displayed superb offensive and defensive tactics to outplay their younger team STC terriers by 69-51. The winners led by 37-24 at the half time. Star players Ranbir and Shubham scored 17 points each for the winners.
In the other matches of the day, STC Warriors (women) defeated Jammu district by 33-04, Udhampur (Men) beat Baramulla by 20-10, STC warriors (women) beat STC Terriers by 26-03.
