*Districts to have own Councils with DDC as Chairman

SRINAGAR, July 6: Government will reconstitute the State Sports Council, to work exclusively for the promotion and availability of sports infrastructure.
This was stated by Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Information Technology and Technical Education, Imran Raza Ansari while chairing the meeting of Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council here.
He also said that Smart Sports City shall be established at Jammu and Srinagar on PPP mode.
Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council which met here today under the chairmanship of Ansari also passed some amendments in the Rule 20 of J&K Sports Council Constitution by voice vote for constitution of District Sports Councils, to be established in every district with concerned District Development Commissioner to be its Chairman.
The other members of the District Sports Council shall be one Sports Council Member as Vice President, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, office bearers of District Units of recognized State Sports Association and Sports Council Employee in-charge of the district as Secretary.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister who is also Vice President of Sports Council said the priority shall be fixed for restoration of flood affected infrastructure.
Ansari also stressed that engineers of Sports Council shall execute the works within optimal estimates so that better sports infrastructure is developed within reasonable funds.
Minister said Rs 6 crore have been earmarked under State sector for the development of sports infrastructure in the State. He said the amount will be utilized judiciously on establishment of new stadia at specific locations with ultra modern facilities.
On the occasion, some members of Sports Council suggested that only sports knowing persons should be involved in development of sports in the State and screening of State teams to represent in national level sports events shall be done by the experts of the respective games.
Secretary, Youth Services and Sports and Technical Education, Hirdesh Kumar briefed the council about the constitution of district sports council.
Among others, Special Secretary, Finance, Director, Planning and other senior officers present on the occasion.
