JAMMU, Aug 3: Sailing on superb all round performance from Sonu, Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor today qualified for the final of the Akhnoor Tehsil Twenty20 Cup Cricket Tournament underway at Government Higher Secondary School ground, here.
Sonu, who earlier contributed 17 runs to the team’s total, took away three important wickets thereby helping Singh Club to make it a seven runs win against Jourian Club.
Earlier, batting first, after Jourian Club won the toss and opted to field, Singh Club set a moderate total of 132 runs losing five wickets. In reply, Jourian Club could not maintain the required run rate and exhausted their quota of overs for 125 runs for six wickets.
Chander Kiran played superb innings of 29-ball 41 runs while Sunil Sharma contributed 12-ball 21. Gourav and Sonu Malhotra added 20 and 17 runs, respectively.
From Jourian Club, Kalu bowled well taking away three wickets while Arjun and Rajan shared apiece each. Later, chasing a run rate of near seven runs per over, Kavi and Billa played brilliant innings but could not lead their side to victory, the reason being lack of support from other batsmen.
Jourian Club completed their overs for 125 runs with four wickets in hand. While Kavi made 53-ball 47 runs, Billa scored 56 runs coming off just 36 deliveries. No other batsman could touch the double figure mark and thus failed in their attempts to give the innings a finishing touch.
Sonu Malhotra emerged as most successful bowler, who bagged three wickets. Anil Kumar and Pankaj Kumar took one wicket each. For restricting the opponent batsmen from making big hits in his three wickets haul, Sonu Malhotra was declared man of the match.
Today’s match was officiated by Vikas Bali and Dayal Singh as umpires while Manik Gupta was scorer.
