JAMMU, Mar 7: School of Languages and Literature, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) organized Literature Festival “Lit Life 2013” in the University campus.
Prof VK Bhat, Dean, College of Humanities and Social Science inaugurated the festival and hoped that the festival will flourish and will foster love of literature and writing among students.
Director of the School, Dr Vandhana Sharma presented the welcome address. Dr Sharma said that the festival has been conceptualized with a vision to make it grow just as the Jaipur literary festival.
Dr Sharma said it is envisaged that in the time to come bookworms and bibliophiles, will be basking in the serene campus of SMVDU and will interact with the students and talk about literature.
During the festival, Dogri writers from Jammu were invited to interact with the students in writer session.
OP Sharma Vidyarthi, Sahitya Akademi Awarded Writer and a Chief Conservator by Profession in his keynote address dwelt upon various Dogri writers and the richness of the Dogri literature.
Deshbandu Dogra Nutan, accomplished writer, Sahitya Akademi awardee and recipient of Presidents Award spoke about his novel Kaidi.
Shailendra Singh, SP Police Headquarters, also shared his creative journey with the students.
Theatre was another significant attraction of the festival, where the students of MA English, SMVDU performed an adaptation of Shakespearean comedy “The Taming of the Shrew”, whereas the students of the Central University of Jammu performed an adaptation of Dr Faustus. Engineering students of SMVDU exhibited their literary inclination by performing an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s the Model Millionaire.
Roop Avtar Kaur, Registrar of the University, Deans, Directors and faculty members of different schools were also present.
