Sher-e-Punjab outplays J&K Police by 6-5 goals

JAMMU, Mar 7: Sher-e-Punjab outplayed J&K Police in a nail bitting quarterfinal match by 6-5 goals and sailed into the next round of the ongoing 3rd Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament being organized by All J&K Indira Gandhi People’s Association in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) and J&K Sports Council at Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College football ground here today.
In the first half of the match, the first goal was scored by Rakesh Kumar of Sher-e-Punjab in the 14 minute, while the second goal of the match was netted by Dilvar Singh of Sher-e-Punjab in the 32nd minute and the scorecard rises to 2-0 goals.
Enthusiastic Rakesh Kumar of Sher-e-Punjab again bounced back and netted the third goal of the match in 44th minute and the first half ended with 3-0 goals lead over J&K Police.
In the second half, J&K Police team players started playing mind games. Sandeep Sharma of J&K Police scored the goal in the 61st minute and brought the scorecard to 3-1 goals.
Zahid Ahoor of J&K Police scored the second goal for his team in the 68th minute and brought the rising pressure down. After the third goal in the 86th minute by Asif Majid of J&K Police, the scorecard equalized.
The match ended with 3-3- goals and turn came for penalty kicks, where Ramandeep Singh, Rakesh Kumar and Gurpal Singh of Sher-e-Punjab converted the penalty kicks into goals.
For J&K Police team side, Yasin Ahmed and Ajay Kumar netted the goal, but due to some missing attempts, lost the match by just one goal.
The second match of the day was scheduled between J&K Bank and PDC (B), where latter won the match as the Bank team failed to report to the venue.
Earlier, during remaining knock out match, which was played between NGR and Young Heroes, NGR advanced to the quarterfinal round by routing Young Heroes by straight five goals to zero (5-0).
The first goal was scored by Hussain of NGR in the 6th minute of the first half. The players of Young Heroes failed to equalize the goal and the first half ended with 1-0 goal.
In the second half, Hussain scored the goal in the 46th minute and raised the lead on its opponent team by 2-0 goals. In the 57th minute, Rooney netted the goal and raised the pressure on Young Heroes team.
In the 64 minute, PD Singh of NGR netted the goal and in the next one minute, Rooney again chipped in fifth goal.
The players of Young Heroes, who were looking dominated in the last minutes of the game, lost the match and paved way for NGR to enter into the next round of the tournament.
The matches were officiated by Shafi Ahmed, Hilal Ahmed, Sohan Lal, Gagan Kumar, Rohit Kumar Gupta and Moon Stephen.
In tomorrow fixture, NGR will clash with J&K Forest in the quarterfinal match at the same venue.
The tournament is being organized by Narinder Gupta, president, All J&K Indira Gandhi People’s Association.
