SMVDSB organizes Patenque Championship to celebrate National Sports Day

KATRA, Aug 27: As part of the week-long celebration of National Sports Day, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Katra organized Patenque Championship for Under-16 and Under-19 categories, here today.
The National Sports Day is celebrated every year in the honour of hockey wizard, late Major Dhyan Chand on August 29.
In all, 132 boys and girls of various educational institutions of Katra and its adjoining areas participated in the Championship.
In the senior category, team led by Ajay Singh won the Championship and the team led by Mehjoor Ahmad was declared runners-up.
Similarly, in the under-16 boys category, Amba Kids Home, Panthal won the Championship, while New Shishu Mandir High School, Katra emerged runners-up.
In Under-16 years girls category, Government Higher Secondary School, Katra got first place, while Government Higher Secondary School, Panthal remained runners-up.
Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB, Katra, who is the organizing secretary of the Championship, said that as part of the week-long celebrations of the National Sports Day, an exhibition football match will be played at DPS Ground, Kakryal on August 28 and Sports Quiz at Katra on August 29, 2014, under the auspices of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Sports Council.
B Mohan Dass, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board was the chief guest, while Pankaj Sharma, Pankaj Gupta, D S Bhau and Anil Sharma, Deputy Chief Executive Officers and Rajinder Singh, OSD of the Shrine Board, were the guests of honour. They gave away prizes to the winners and runners-up teams.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Ashwani Katoch and Ajay Singh, Principals of Amba Kids Home, Panthal and Dev Kids, Katra respectively. Heads and teachers of the various participating Schools were also present on the occasion.
The technical assistance was provided by Tarsem Sharma and Gourab Arora.
