JAMMU, Nov 18: 14th District Hockey Championship for Mehjoor Memorial Cup 2014 organized by Victor Sports Club Pulwama, concluded on Monday with Saadi Kids, Saadi Memorial Public School (SMPS) and Mehjoor Club registered wins in Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior divisions, respectively.
The championship was organized under the aegis of Hockey J&K led by NK Bhatra and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
11 teams from different clubs and schools participated in the tournament in all the age groups (Senior, Junior, Sub-Junior). The tournament started on November 8.
In Sub Junior category the final was played between Saadi Kids and Young Star, which was won by former. In Junior category Saadi Memorial Public School was the winner. In Senior category Victor Sports Club Pulwama and Mehjoor Club Ratnipora were the finalists. Mehjoor Club Ratnipora won the match by one goal.
The final function and award ceremony of the championship was held at District Police Lines Pulwama. Tejinder Singh, SSP Pulwama was the chief guest on the valedictory function. Mushtaq Ahmad, DSP DAR Pulwama, Karnail Singh, Line officer, DPL Pulwama, Nisar Ahmad, Manager, Sports Stadium Pulwama, MA Wani and Syed Jameel Mustafa also graced the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Tejinder Singh lauded the efforts of Hockey J&K and J&K State Sports Council for organizing such events in rural areas of the State. He also appreciated the efforts of Victor Sports Club in upgrading the level of Hockey in the district.
