Sikkim boys, Assam girls lift title trophies; Karishma, Kulak adjudged best players

JAMMU, June 18: Sikkim smashed Assam by a solitary goal and lifted the title trophy in the boys section of the ‘Oorja’ Football Talent Hunt Tournament, being played at Jammu University ground here today.
In the girls’ summit clash played yesterday, Assam defeated Telangana by 1-0 goal and lifted the title trophy. The goal was scored by Anjali Deka.
J&K bagged third position in boys section, while Sikkim secured third position in girls section.
On the valedictory function today, Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs was the chief guest, who awarded the winners, runner-ups and also presented best player awards in presence of Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University and AK Bhardwaj, Director, All India Police Sports Control Board, Ravinder Raina, MLA and Tajamul Islam, Brand Ambassador of Oorja-2017 were guest of honours.
Cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each was given to winner teams in boys section, while runner-up teams were presented Rs 60,000 each. Rs 40,000 each was presented to third position holders. The best player award in girls section was bagged by Karishma Roy of Sikkim and in boys section, the best player award was bagged by Kulak Baruha of Assam.

In the month of October 2017, India is going to host Under-17 FIFA World Cup Football Tournament for the very first time in the history of football in India. While emphasizing successful hosting of the event, the Prime Minister has decided that FIFA World Cup must be a catalyst for change, the tipping point for football in the country, which can only be done by creating a mass movement around it. The name thus suggested and recommended for the tournament was “Oorja—CAPFs U-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament 2017”.
While speaking, SS Deswal, Additional Director General of Police (DIG), SSB presented the welcome address and briefed the gathering about the Oorja tournament.
He informed that total 12 football teams, six each of boys and girls of six States namely Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir had participated in the 2nd phase of the tournament, played on University of Jammu grounds.
For smooth conduct of the second phase in Jammu & Kashmir State, various organising committees have been formed, he said and conveyed the gratitude on behalf of SSB to Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Jammu & Kashmir University, JKP, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, JU, Football Association and various clubs for making the tournament a grand success in Jammu.
In the end, Sashastra Seema Bal troops presented cultural programme, which was highly appreciated by the audience.
