Prasad, Bukhari bring good omen for JK cricketers

JAMMU, Oct 3: Former Supreme Court Justice CK Prasad and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) brought good omen for J&K cricketers with their presence at Chennai in the match against Team Rajasthan as Shubham Khajuria, Ian Dev Singh, skipper Parvez Rasool and Waseem Raza guided Jammu and Kashmir to season’s 1st win over formidable Team Rajasthan in Elite Group C match at Chennai, today.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Team Rajasthan scored 218 runs in the stipulated 50 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Salam Khan was the top scorer with 60 runs, while Manender Narender Singh contributed 50 runs to the total and Abhijeet Tomar made 38 runs. Rasool was the pick of the bowlers from Jammu and Kashmir, who scalped 3 wickets by conceding 36 runs in his 10 overs, while left-arm spinner Waseem Raza took 2 wickets by giving away 23 runs in his 10 overs. Test cricketer Irfan Pathan and debutant Rasikh Khan also contributed to the team’s cause by taking 1 wicket each.
In reply, J&K rode on brilliant half centuries by Shubham Khajuria (57) and Ian Dev Singh (51) to chase the reduced target (due to rain) of 179 runs in 35.3 overs, with Pathan hitting the winning runs. Ian hit 2 fours and 3 sixes, while Shubham struck 4 fours and 2 sixes in their knocks. In form Paras Sharma, who scored splendid 93 on the other day also contributed 16 runs to the winning total, while Shubham Singh Pundhir and Ahmed Omar Banday chipped in with 15 and 12 runs respectively. From Team Rajasthan, Rahul Chahar took 3 wickets, while Tejinder Singh claimed 2 wickets.
