Jammu, Jan 19: The 7th meeting of the Governing Council of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board’s Sports Complex, Katra, was held here wherein a number of significant decisions for scouting the sporting talent and arranging mega sports events in the coming months to promote sports and games in the area and for developing the Sports Complex as a centre of excellence were taken.
In this context, the Governing Council decided to organise a mega sports festival at the Sports Complex at Katra next month to enable the student and non-student youth of the area to avail state-of-the-art facilities created by the Shrine Board. The sports events being planned for the festival include competitions in Basketball, Football, Tug of War, Kabaddi and Volleyball.
The GC also decided that besides athletics, archery, shooting and basketball, judo will be another area of focus to produce outstanding players in this sport also. The meeting also deliberated the modalities for organising various sports events at the Sports Complex in the coming months.
Dr. Ashok Bhan, Member Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Sports Complex, chaired the meeting. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Vivek Verma, Additional CEO; Sanjeeva Singh, former International Archer (Arjuna/Dronacharya Awardee); Krupali Singh, National Gymnastics Coach (Arjuna Awardee); Kuldeep Handoo, eminent Wushu player and National Coach; besides Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB, all of whom are members of the Governing Council, participated in the deliberations. Hem Kant Prasher, Chief Accounts Officer; Dr. Arvind Karwani and Dr. Sunil Sharma, Deputy CEOs of the Shrine Board were also present. Shiv Kumar Sharma was the special invitee.
The GC took a detailed review of the various sports activities organised at the Sports Complex during the past months and lauded these initiatives besides expressing great satisfaction at the appreciable performance of the sportspersons trained and nurtured at the Sports Complex. The GC also congratulated the medal winners at the different level championships as well as in the international competitions and approved the Calendar of Activities of the Sports Complex for 2020-21. The meeting suggested for conducting performance audit of the sports persons being trained at the Sports Complex to continuously improve their performance in the various sports and games.
