KATRA, Dec 26: A two days Eco-Trekking Programme was organized by Forest Wing of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board with the help and participation of NCC Directorate, Jammu.
About 16 NCC cadets, 12 Shrine Board staff members and 14 CRPF Jawans took part in the trekking programme.
Ajeet Kumar Sahu, CEO, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board delivered orientation address to the participants on Trikuta Hills Ecology and various efforts made by the Shrine Board for preservation of fragile ecosystem and flagged off the trek.
This is the first such eco-trekking programme conducted by SMVDSB to inculcate among youths a spirit of adventure, appreciation of bio diversity of the Trikuta Hills and to make the participants aware of the importance of forest and plantation activities in maintaining ecosystem balance of Trikuta Hills, the abode of one of the most revered Shrine of India.
On day one, participants started their trekking from Sarpatian to Devi Pindian and returned back to Kunia Panthal Hi-tech Nursery via Mattali Dabbar. On day two, the trekking team started its journey from Palel Village and reached Himkoti via Guddi Dhar through subtropical Chir and plantations areas. Some of the Shrine Board’s notable eco-restoration initiatives to which the participants were exposed are Hi-tech Nursery at Panthal created for conservation and propagation of indigenous and medicinal plants, mixed forest plantation and natural regeneration at various locations, sources of perennial streams which originate within Trikuta Hills such as Jhajjar Nallah/Pai Nallah, forest fencing works, soil moisture conservation works etc. The trek was conceptualised and supervised by Dr. M. K. Kumar, Additional CEO of the Board.
