Shreya secures 6th place in Commonwealth Fencing C’ship

JAMMU, Aug 14: An ace fencer of India and international medallist, Shreya Gupta secured 6th place in sabre category in ongoing Junior Commonwealth Fencing Championship being held at London.
Close on heels of missing senior category campaign due to visa related problems, Shreya defeated Erin Corcoran of Wales by 15-14 in a breadth taking match to enter pre medal bout. In the pre medal match Shreya was defeated by Ellen Robbins Wilkinson of England again in a tight finish match by margin of 15-13.
Another fencer from J&K namely Kritarthi Kotwal secured 17th place.
Meanwhile, Secretary, J&K Sports Council Nuzhut Gul congratulated Shreya Gupta for giving an excellent performance during the championship. She said there shall always be unlimited and continuous support to achievers like Shreya Gupta from the Sports Council.
M J Sharma, president, J&K Amateur Fencing in message also congratulated the young fencer for her splendid performance and hoped she will keep continuing her winning performance at national and international arena.
