Shreya keeps J&K on top at Jr National Meet, wins gold

JAMMU, Dec 27: Ace fencer Shreya Gupta today kept the Jammu and Kashmir contingent atop, hitting gold in the Sabre women’s event in the ongoing 29th Junior National Fencing Championship at Sonipat, Haryana.
An official of J&K Amateur Fencing Association here said that Shreya won gold medal in women individual Sabre event by defeating the fencer from Gujrat.
Earlier on Sunday, Lakshya Sharma won bronze medal in the individual men’s Sabre event.
However, as per reports reaching here, the Sabre men team comprising Mayank Sharma, Lakshya Sharma, Amit Chib and Suryansh Sharma has reached the finals and will play their bout tomorrow. The team has ensured silver medal in the Sabre event.
J&K Sabre team will fight in the final against the winner of SSCB and Haryana.
Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of J&K Sports Council, extended best wishes to the fencers and congratulated coaches Shotu Lal Sharma and Rachna Jamwal for an excellent performance by the fencers in the ongoing competition.
Convener, Ad-hoc Committee, J&K Amateur Fencing Association, Rashid Ahmed Choudhary has lauded the fencers for a spellbound performance in the championship, which will conclude on December 28.
