JAMMU, Nov 17: Shiksha Niketan High School Gandhi Nagar celebrated its ’54th Annual Day cum Prize Distribution Function’ on the theme ‘Dogra Culture’ at Teacher Bhawan, here today with gaiety and fervour.
Padma Shri Dr Jatinder Udhampuri, writer and educationist and recipient of Sahitya Academy Award and J&K Academy Award was the chief guest, while Professor RD Sharma, Ex Vice Chancellor of Jammu University presided over the function.
Om Parkash Sharma, retd Agriculture Officer, ID Soni, retd Dy Director Education were the guests of honour and Devinder Singh Manhas, Deputy Chief Education Officer (Nodal Officer Teacher Bhawan) were the special guests.
The function commenced with lighting of lamp by the chief guest and other dignitaries who graced the function, followed by ‘Kark’ presented by the students and welcome song by the primary wing students.
Earlier, the Principal of the School gave a brief description about the students who excelled in different fields. Thereafter, the pre-primary wing performed jagran on the Dogri song, while a Dogri song was also presented by the students and a short play was staged by a student on ‘Rani Taramati’.
Later, a folk dance of Jammu and Kud was presented by students of high wing and Rs 15000 cheque was awarded to Pragati Gupta and Rs 5000 cheque was awarded to Vanshika and Himani of Class-10th. Trophies and certificates were presented to the students who got merit in Classes from Ankur to 9th during the previous academic session.
Prominent personalities including MN Joshi, Bhanu Mahajan (Corporator), Vijay Arora from Bharat Vikas Parishad, MK Wadhera and former teachers of the School were also present during the event.
The vote of thanks was presented by management of the School by performing Kud folk dance.
