JAMMU, Nov 13: Member Legislative Council, S Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, today inaugurated Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hockey Tournament, at K K Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium, here.
As many as 9 teams from Jammu Division are participating in the 9-day league-cum-knock-out tournament. Final of the tournament will be played on November 21, 2015.
Kashmir Sikh Sangat, Jammu has organized the said Hockey Tournament under the aegis of Hockey J&K. It is maiden tournament organized in the name of Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, in the country.
Appreciating efforts of the organizers, the MLC said more such tournaments are required to be organized so that such events become a regular feature giving boost to sports activities.
He further said that such tournaments go a long way in making youth familiar with renowned patriots, besides helping them imbibe sportsman and team spirit.
Speaking on the occasion, organizing secretary of Kashmir Sikh Sangat, S TP Singh said that that the tournament has been organized in the memory of Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur with an objective to involve more and more youth in sports activities and to channelize their energy in a positive direction.
Baba Jatinder Pal Singh, a family member of Dera Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Reasi was also present on the occasion.
Dr Danwant Singh from USA, chairman Kashmir Sikh Sangat was the chief guest during the proceedings of the second match of the day.
The first match of the tournament was played between Young Star Simbal Camp and Hira Nagar Hockey Club, wherein former defeated latter by three goals to one (3-1). For winners Young Star Simbal Camp, the 1st goal was scored by Sarabjeet Singh in 15th minute, while the second goal was netted by Sumitpal Singh in 38th minute and Rajeet Singh scored the third goal in 54th minute. For Hira Nagar Club, the only goal was scored by Abhinandan Singh in 56th minute.
In another match MBS Simbal Camp drubbed Ajit Club Gole Gujral by six goals to nil (6-1).
The goal scorers were Satwant Singh in 10th minute, Ramandeep Singh in 18th and 52nd minutes, Ramnik Singh in 25th minute and Jaspreet Singh in 44th and 48th minutes.
The matches were officiated by Daljet Singh Bhatia, Charanjit Singh, Manjeet Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Abhishek Kumar and Tournament Director GS Bakshi.
Earlier, the chief guest was introduced with the players and organizers.
Among others, SP, Hqr, S. Randhir Singh, members of Kashmir Sikh Sangat Organization and a large number of sports lovers were also present on the occasion.
