SRINAGAR, Sept 20: Anil Swarup, Secretary, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Department of School Education & Literacy, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Swarup informed Governor about various measures being taken by the MHRD for the advancement of school education and spread of literacy in the country.
In the context of the severe difficulties faced in the State since the early 1990s and the irreparable damage done in the educational sector because of the recurring disruption of the academic schedules, Governor stressed the crucial importance of every required step being taken for improving the quality of school education in the State.
In this context Governor sought Swarup’s sustained support and also discussed with him problems relating to temporary/inadequately trained teachers and the need for most efficient implementation of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).
Anil Swarup also called on the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti.
Swarup, who is on a visit to the State, briefed the Chief Minister about the initiatives of his Ministry regarding strengthening education sector in the State.
The Chief Minister impressed upon the Union Secretary for adopting a systemic approach to further strengthen the educational system in the State. She sought more technological, monitoring, delivery and inventional interventions from the Centre to further improve the quality of school education in the State. This integrated approach, she said, would also help students hone their personality traits or career skills in a better way to become responsible citizens of tomorrow.
Mehbooba Mufti also sought more student exchanges for the students of the State so that they remain abreast with the changing educational scenario in rest of the country.
Funding for SSA, Mid Day Meal scheme, strengthening of school infrastructure and other issues related to education sector in the State came up for discussion during the meeting.
Minister for Education, Syed Altaf Bukhari; Chief Secretary, B. B. Vyas; Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Rohit Kansal and Secretary, School Education, Farooq Ahmad Shah were also present on the occasion.
