Satish sparkles as Jammu drubs Doda by 6 wkts

JAMMU, Feb 28: Secretary to Government Youth Services and Sports Department Sarmad Hafeez honoured the winners and runners-up teams of the semifinal match of LG (Cricket) Trophy after Director Youth Services and Sports, Subash Chander Chibber declared open the match in an impressive, colourful and well-attended function at Khelgaon, Nagrota, near here today.
Sarmad Hafeez was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while earlier in the inaugural ceremony, Director Sports, Chibber was accompanied by Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports Jitender Mishra, Deputy Director YS&S Planning Ravi Kumar, Accounts Officer YS&S Sunil Kumar and District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu, Sukhdev Raj Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarmad Hafeez said that the Government was committed to promote sports in every nook and corner of the Union Territory, adding that J&K has witnessed a sea change in improvement of the standard of sports and development of sports infra.
He said that the sports extravaganzas like LG Trophy apart from helping youth to showcase their sporting skills, guides them to not to fall prey to drugs and other allied social evils, so not to derail from the mainstream.
He said sportspersons are the messengers of peace, harmony and prosperity and the mega sporting events like this are the best media to peace to the Union Territory and the nation as well.
The Director said that the final match between the two teams of both the divisions will be played in the second week of March at MA Stadium, Jammu.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Doda scored a decent total of 157 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Mubarak top scored with 38 runs.
For Jammu, Abhishek was the most successful bowler, who took 3 wickets by conceding 35 runs in his 4 overs.
In reply, Jammu rode on a superb batting display by Satish Kumar and scored the required runs in 18.3 overs, losing 4 wickets in the process. Satish Kumar top scored with magnificent 45 runs.
For Doda, Baber took one wicket by conceding 22 runs in his 4 overs.
Talented batting all-rounder Satish Kumar was adjudged as the man of the match for his brilliant batting display.
He was presented player of the match trophy by the chief guest on the occasion Sarmad Hafeez in the presence of Director Sports, Subash Chander Chibber and a galaxy of officers and officials of the Department.
The chief guest also honoured the players of both the teams on the occasion.
The match was officiated by a panel of experts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
