Jammu, June 28: Samooh Theatre , today hold a function on its 26th Foundation Day wherein a short documentary of its magnificent past achievements was released and same was uploaded on the social media and its YouTube channel .
The documentary has been written by Ravinder Sharma Director Samooh Theatre Music effects has been designed by Surinder Singh Manhas editing by Heeramani Singh and voice over given by the noted announcer of the UT Rita Yusuf.
On this occasion, Dr. Sudhir Mahajan a renowned theater Director, actor and activist while sharing his views said that a 26 years ago the theater group Samooh was established with like minded friends besides his wife Kiran Mahajan was also one of the active members of the group.
Dr. Mahajan said that before establishing the group he had already acted and directed many plays in Jammu chandigarh and Delhi during the period from 1980 to 1993 .
Samooh Theatre is a Socio-Cultural group and has its three separate wings including children , women and adults . The adults and children wing are runs by under the direction of Ravinder Sharma a noted theater director of the UT Jammu and Kashmir while the women wing empowering women through impartaning various skills runs by under able guidance of the noted social activist Anita Chandpuri.
Since 1994 the group has produced more than 100 plays and organized various children theatre-in -education workshops for the children of slums, rural and urban as well. Besides, organized Theatre festivals, more than 1000 nukkad shows , folk theater festivals , play Wright workshops film festivals including many dance and muscical recitation.
Samooh is the first theater group of the UT, Jammu and Kashmir whom has a credit of introducing the dramatization of long poetry and short stories and staged many shows in the different venues including in and outdoor as well.
It is pertinent to mention here that since 1995 many plays under the direction of Dr. Sudhir Mahajan and Ravinder Sharma were staged in New Delhi , Bengal, Rajisthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh and Maharashtra.
The prominent artists who have their amazing contributions to the field of Theatre ,dance and music and have their long association to Samooh Theatre including Daya Ram Daya Bhupinder Singh Manhas ,Joginder Singh Manhas , Sameer Koul , Rajesh Kotru , Yasir Nisar Khan ,Rajeev Kumar , Dhanesh Dogra , Varsha Dogra, Gurmeet Batra Jamwal , Bhupinder Singh Jamwal, Satish Kumar Dafara , Juhie Mohan , Manik Singh , Akshya Kumar , Vijay Jeetu, Swantar Bhart , Suresh Kumar , Suresh Sharma and Satish.
